Growing Alone

from Iris by Greg Smith

/

lyrics

He closes up the corner store mops the floors
They used to dance on

He walks down streets they used to roam
But now he sits in soft incandescent glow

And he's growing alone
and he's growing alone

He switched to her brand of cigarettes
The same sweet smell of the night they met

He couldn't let her gardens grow untamed
Couldn't let her poems go unwritten and unnamed

And he's growing alone
and he's growing alone

He Couldn't write her epitaph
Can one whole life be summed up like that?

Maybe tomorrow he won't open up the store
take another dance across those floors
